Shillong, Sep 4: The leaders of the Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) were summoned by the City Police at Sadar PS on Monday for wearing black as their uniform, citing a violation of Section 171 CrPc.
In a significant gathering, HITO members are currently on their way to the police station to protest against the action taken by the police. They are assembling at the SBI Main Branch before proceeding to the Sadar Police Station in Shillong.
Members were spotted holding placards with messages such as, “Since when do police get copyright of black dress?” The members voiced their strong condemnation of this police action.
In response to potential repercussions, several non-tribal shops chose to close their doors out of fear.
