Shillong, March 19: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has urged the Ministry of Women and Child Development to give the State a 6-month extension to complete the enrolment and linking all beneficiaries of the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) through Aadhaar and eKYC and facial recognition system.
Meghalaya, renowned for its path-breaking Early Childhood Development Mission, has consistently aligned its vision with national goals to combat malnutrition and promote the well-being of children and women. The State’s efforts target holistic growth of children from conception to the age of eight, emphasizing nutrition, education, and overall development.
In a letter to Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi, Sangma said, “An intensive campaign for e-KYC and capturing facial recognition has already kickstarted in campaign mode. As such, I humbly request for providing us a window of 6 (six) months to enable us to enroll and link all our beneficiaries through Aadhaar and eKYC & facial recognition system which shall be a big support extended to the State.”
“I also humbly request if the State could be also allowed to cover all our recorded and registered MPR beneficiaries also for SNP till such time,” he also stated.
Highlighting the problems faced by the State with regards to Supplementary Nutrition Programme, Sangma said that, as per MPR data, the State has 5,85,254 beneficiaries whereas under POSHAN TRACKER only 4,00,572 POSHAN 2.0 beneficiaries are registered. This means that 1,84,682 beneficiaries are left out.

“This is a significant 31.56% of all our eligible and registered beneficiaries which are getting missed out due to a variety of reasons,” he said.
Further, the CM also informed that the State Government has stepped up its efforts for Aadhaar enrolment and seeding of these beneficiaries. The procurement of smartphones for Anganwadi Workers is in its final stages, he added.
