Shillong, July 14: Meghalaya put its governance innovations in the national spotlight by showcasing six flagship initiatives at the National Conference on “NextGen Administrative & e-Governance Reforms”, organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) held here.
Senior officials from the state presented successful models spanning maternal healthcare, early childhood development, digital governance, climate resilience, geospatial technology and public service delivery, highlighting Meghalaya’s growing reputation as a laboratory for governance reforms.
Health and Family Welfare Secretary and NHM Director Ramkumar S. presented the Rescue Mission, detailing how targeted interventions have helped reduce maternal mortality and improve maternal health outcomes in Meghalaya.
Social Welfare Director Saloni Verma showcased Mission 1000 for Early Childhood Development, highlighting community-driven efforts to improve nutrition, early childhood care and holistic child development.
Commissioner and Secretary of the Soil and Water Conservation Department Dr Joram Beda presented the Climate Adaptive Community-Based Water Harvesting Project, explaining how community participation and climate-resilient infrastructure are strengthening water security and promoting sustainable natural resource management in rural Meghalaya.
Joint Secretary and Director of the Information Technology and Communications Department K. L. Nongbri highlighted the state’s investments in digital infrastructure, describing it as the backbone of citizen-centric service delivery and digital transformation in public administration.

Executive Director of the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency Sachin Gavade presented how geospatial technologies are being leveraged for natural resource management, watershed planning and sustainable development across the state.
Deputy Secretary, Planning, Investment Promotion and Sustainable Development Department, Richa Kulkarni, showcased Meghalaya’s digital governance initiatives, demonstrating how technology-enabled interventions are improving governance efficiency and enhancing public service delivery.
The presentations formed part of the conference session on “Best Practices of the State of Meghalaya”, where states shared replicable governance models that could be adopted elsewhere in the country.
The strong representation reflected Meghalaya’s increasing national recognition for innovations in governance, particularly in public health, digital administration, natural resource management and community-led development, with several of its flagship programmes now being showcased as best practices at the national level.
