Shillong, Sept 5: Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma, speaking after the 63rd State Level Teachers’ Day event at U Soso Tham Auditorium programme, confirmed that all suggestions made by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma would be implemented.
He revealed that 10-15 students from the state, likely 1-2 from each district, would be sent to London, UK, for an excursion study trip under the new “CM Global Fellowship Program”. This initiative aims to provide students with global exposure and enhance their learning experience.
Earlier, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma suggested several key improvements for the education system, including exchange programs between schools, awarding schools based on various criteria beyond academic results, and incorporating local languages, Garo and Khasi, into the curriculum up to class 5 to promote regional culture.
The Education Minister further highlighted the government’s efforts to improve school infrastructure, stating that over 2,400 school buildings have already been renovated. With funds from programs such as the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA), Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), and the NEP, significant progress has been made in recent years. He reiterated that while challenges remain, the government is committed to continuing these reforms to achieve its educational goals.
