Shillong, April 10: Meghalaya stormed into the semifinals of the 2nd NECDC Senior Women’s T20 Tournament 2025 as Group A toppers, defeating Nagaland by 29 runs in a commanding performance at Rangpo, Sikkim, on Wednesday.

Star batter Debasmita Dutta once again led from the front, scoring a scintillating 68 off 65 balls to power Meghalaya to 122/4 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Nagaland could only manage 93/9, failing to chase the target against a disciplined Meghalaya bowling attack.

Winning the Player of the Match for a second consecutive game, Debasmita struck 10 boundaries in a fluent knock that laid the foundation for Meghalaya’s victory. Opening the innings, she anchored the side until the final over, missing out narrowly on carrying her bat through.

She was ably supported by Neha Hajong (20 off 21 balls), while Ajima Sangma provided a late flourish with a brisk 15 not out off 7 balls, lifting Meghalaya to a competitive total.

Imsusenla Longkumer, Mengusenuo and Sariba Khan picked up a wicket apiece for Nagaland.
Nagaland’s chase got off to a shaky start, losing both openers by the third over. All-rounder Ajima Sangma played a key role in the early breakthroughs—accounting for both wickets through a run-out and one stumped by wicketkeeper Monica L Phawa. Ajima (1/9 in 3 overs) also accounted for another batter via run out.

The best bowling figures, however, came from Monica Singh, who took 2/13 in 4 overs. Other contributors with the ball included Indariakor K Wanniang (1/12), Rubi Chettri (1/13), and Neha Hajong (1/15), each chipping in to keep the pressure on the Nagaland batters.

With back-to-back wins, including Tuesday’s triumph over Mizoram, Meghalaya finished on top of Group A, while Nagaland, who beat Mizoram earlier in the tournament, secured the second spot. Both teams advance to the semifinals of the tournament, which is being organized by the North East Cricket Development Council (NECDC) and hosted by the Sikkim Cricket Association.

The semifinal lineup is now confirmed – Meghalaya will face Manipur in the first semifinal on Thursday, while Sikkim will face Nagaland in the other knockout match.
For her match-winning knock, Debasmita Dutta was awarded the Player of the Match medal by Tika Subba, President of the Sikkim Cricket Association.
