Shillong, July 12: In a tragic incident, a youth drowned at the Nongdiengngan MeECL Dam area in Meghalaya.
According to reports, he along with his friends had go e for fishing at the Nongdiengngan MeECL Dam area when the incident happened.
The deceased was identified as Shiningstar Kharpati.
According to the police, the deceased was a resident of Umpling village.
Friends who accompanied Shiningstar Kharpati for a fishing trip were Malkos Lyngdoh and Micheal Warjri.
It is said that due to heavy rain and strong winds, they had set up a tent at the site to seek shelter. But, the tent was swept away by the strong gusts and slipped to the lake.
According to the eyewitnesses, Shiningstar Kharpati swam into the lake, while trying to retrieve the tent that had been carried away by the wind.
However, Kharpati drowned despite all his efforts.
Following the incidents, the lifeless body of Shiningstar Kharpati was recovered from the lake.
A post-mortem examination was conducted at Civil Hospital Nongpoh, following which the body was handed over to the bereaved family members.
