Meghalaya Youth League 2024: Nongstoin, Ri-Bhoi utterly dominant in Round 2

Shillong, July 28: Nongstoin District Sports Association and Ri-Bhoi District Sports Association were completely dominant in Round 2 of the Meghalaya Youth League 2024, as they extended their winning streak in both the U-14 and U-16 categories in their respective zones on Saturday.

Ri-Bhoi defeated Riwar Mihngi Football Association 9-0 in the U-14 category and 6-0 in the U-16 category of Zone C at the UUP Stadium in Pynursla. Ribanshan Kyrsian scored a hat-trick for Ri-Bhoi in the U-14 match.

Nongstoin, meanwhile, were hosts for the second weekend in a row and this time beat Mawkyrwat District Sports Association 3-0 and 2-0 in the U-14 and U-16 categories respectively in Zone D.

Having won in both age groups last weekend, both Nongstoin and Ri-Bhoi have 6 full points in each category.

The U-14 team of Pyndengumiong District Sports Association also have a full 6 points having won against Tyrsad Area Sports Association 2-0 (also in Zone D) on Saturday. However, the Pyndengumiong’s U-16 team were on the losing end, going down to Tyrsad 4-0.

The U-16 matches in Zone A began this weekend with Williamnagar District Sports Association winning a high-scoring contest against hosts Tura District Football Association 6-2, in part thanks to a treble from Vrickan N Sangma. His is the first hat-trick of the U-16 category.

Zone A’s U-14 match was between North Garo Hills District Sports Association and Baghmara District Football Association, with Negsim Ch Momin scoring four goals in a 7-0 victory for his team North Garo Hills.

Zone B, meanwhile, witnessed West Jaintia District Sports Association take the field for the first time and they won their U-14 match 5-1 and U-16 game 1-0 against East Jaintia District Football Association at Jowai’s Kiang Nangbah Stadium.

Laskein Block Sports Association also won their U-14 match, 2-0 against Saipung Block Sports Association for their first win after losing last Saturday. The two sides, however, drew 1-1 in the U-16 age group.
