Meghalaya’s anti-drugs mission rolls out second vocational training for women in recovery

Shillong, March 27: The Drug Reduction Elimination & Action Mission (DREAM) on Wednesday launched its second vocational training program with the aim of empowering women in their recovery journey. The program has been launched in collaboration with Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS), North-East Institute of Professional Studies (NEIPS), BIDS, and ITI.

This vocational training initiative is part of DREAM’s ongoing mission to provide sustainable, practical skills and opportunities for women recovering from substance abuse. By fostering self-reliance and economic independence, the program plays a crucial role in supporting the reintegration of these women into society, providing them with the tools and confidence to lead fulfilling, independent lives.

The women residents at the New Hope De-Addiction Centre in Mawkasiang actively participated in the program, displaying a high level of enthusiasm and commitment. Various sessions were conducted, covering a diverse range of skills, including beauty therapy, bakery & confectionery, electronics repair, driving & mechanics, culinary arts, embroidery & weaving, wire work, surveying, and more.

Additionally, the program introduced the participants to overseas employment opportunities, with specific focus on countries like Japan and Germany, where skilled workers are in demand. Information about free state-sponsored training programs designed to enhance employability and entrepreneurial skills was also shared, offering the women valuable insights into career development opportunities available to them.

The inmates were grateful for the event and expressed their desire & willingness to enrol themselves in the various training programs, with a hope of gaining a bright and empowering future post-recovery.

Through these training programs, they will not only gain valuable knowledge but also build their confidence and resilience, equipping themselves with the tools needed for a brighter and more independent future.
