Shillong, Jan 16: The government of Meghalaya has achieved the distinguished title of ‘Top performer’ in the States’ Startup Ranking 2022, an accolade bestowed by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in Delhi on Tuesday.
Dr. D. Vijay Kumar, Commissioner & Secretary of the Planning and Finance Department and CEO of MBMA, received the award from Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Textiles, at an event held in New Delhi at Bharat Mandapam on National Startup Day, 2024.
This remarkable accomplishment reflects the state’s steadfast commitment to nurturing innovation and supporting the growth of startups.
The success of Meghalaya in the startup ecosystem is attributed to groundbreaking initiatives, notably the establishment of Prime-LIFCOM and Prime-MBMA. These initiatives have played a crucial role in providing essential financial support to startups and enhancing the capacities of ventures dedicated to critical sectors such as renewable energy, sustainability, climate change, and rural impact.
Meghalaya is now acknowledged as a Funding Leader, an Incubation Hub, and a Mentorship Champion, solidifying its position as an Innovative Leader in the startup ecosystem. These recognitions underscore the state’s dedication to creating a conducive environment for startups to thrive and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
The States’ Startup Ranking, introduced by DPIIT in February 2018, is a comprehensive capacity-building exercise aimed at evaluating the efforts of states and union territories in building an ecosystem conducive to startup growth. This annual ranking not only monitors policy evolution but also identifies best practices that accelerate ecosystem growth and development.
Kumar expressed, “This recognition is a testament to Meghalaya’s dedication to fostering innovation and supporting the entrepreneurial spirit. We are proud to be at the forefront of creating a robust startup ecosystem in North East India, contributing to the overall growth and development of our state.”
The annual rankings serve as a crucial tool to measure policy progress and efforts in building a conducive environment for startups.
As Meghalaya continues to lead the way, the state is poised to inspire and collaborate with other regions, contributing to the vision of a dynamic and thriving startup ecosystem across the country.
