Shillong, Oct 30 : United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Eugeneson Lyngdoh expressed confidence to win Mawphlang.

Lyngdoh said that he is confident for the win, “Once we enter the battlefield, we always expect to win, I don’t see anyone as my strongest contender but all three of us are at par”.

When asked to comment on the allegations of corruption against the NPP-led MDA Government, the UDP candidate said that he is not bothered about what is happening in the government. The Congress candidate, Eugeneson said, “I am a man of principles, a sport’s person who has represented the country, so all these allegations are something that I’m not bothered about”.

When asked if he had made the right decision of joining the UDP, he said that it was the people who wanted him to contest from the UDP. “The UDP is a regional party which is committed to protect the interest and rights of its local indigenous population. I am also a person who is proud of my roots of being a Khasi and I think I am on the right platform,” Eugeneson said.

Eugeneson is happy to see the turnout of the people exercising their duty as a citizen in performing their universal adult franchise.

It may be mentioned that the Mawphlang seat fell vacant after Eugeneson’s father and Independent legislator Syntar Klas Sunn passed away on September 10.

While Eugeneson is contesting on a UDP ticket, the footballer was formally inducted into the UDP and had also submitted a formal application seeking party ticket to contest the Mawphlang by-election.
