Tura, Dec 1: Come December 7, and Me’Gong Festival is all set to return to Garo Hills. This year international sensation Vengaboys are set to headline the famous musical festival, to make all go ‘Sha-La-La-La-La’ this winter.
Alongside Vengaboys, the event will have performances from soulful maestro Armaan Malik, the legendary Parikrama, and indie-folk sensations When Chai Met Toast besides local popular artists at the main stage. Some of the local artists performing include: Riprap, Colours, Street Stories, Da Suraka, Wann Manda, G-Hills Finest, Saldorik & Dio, Eh Rngiew, Trance Effect, Nokpante, Avora Records, The Do.pos, Chegim Durama, Crack Gang.
There is also ‘The Dome’ stage where Brian, Cyco, DBryn, DJ Dino, DJ Kamz, Jitupan, Lening Sangma, Markush D Shira, MC Static, RC Rabie, Ricky, Sly, and Silbert will ensure festival goers don’t have a moment of dullness with their electro/fusion music.
The event will be held at Jengjal Baljek, about 30 kms from Tura, the capital of West Garo Hills, from December 7 to 9.
The festival is being held after a gap of one year. It had to be called-off at the last-minute last year due to tensions on Assam – Meghalaya border due to the Mukroh firing incident in which five people from Meghalaya were killed.
The Me’gong Festival is a fusion of tradition and modernity that showcases the rich culture, uniqueness, and lifestyle of the Garo people, while also serving as a platform to promote Meghalaya’s Garo Hills as a captivating tourism destination.
Spanning three days, the festival highlights the diverse and exquisite brews from the region, capturing the essence of the Garo people’s identity. Through traditional beverages on display, the event symbolizes their cultural heritage, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the Garo way of life.
Most importantly, the general entry to the event is free, ensuring that the magic of Me’gong is accessible to everyone. However, for those looking for extra comfort and amped experience, there is the option of VIP seating
The event will also have Food Court, FC 24 Tournament, beverages, Hot Air Balloon, Kids Play Zone, Karaoke contest, traditional games, graffiti, indigenous fashion, Ferris Wheel, Zipline, Selfie Zones, Flea market, Makers market, along with host of other activities.
