Delhi, June 5: People from Meitei Community on Sunday stage a protest against the violence in Manipur, at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
The members of the Meitei community demanded protection from “Kuki militants” who are to be blamed for the situation in the strife-torn Manipur.
They also asked the Government to check the “illegal immigration” in the state and protect the state’s territorial integrity.
The protest was organised by the Manipur Coordination Committee.
On Sunday, hundreds of people from Meitei community residing in the national capital took part in it.
During the rally, chants of “Save Manipur” and “Kuki terrorists go back were heard”, while some protesters also narrated their ordeal of the violence in the state.
Also, some prominent community members also talked about the reasons behind the ongoing conflict in the state.
Protestors also said that despite Union Hime Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state, the community was not feeling safe in Manipur as the state administration and the security forces were not able to help or protect them.
Protestors said that that the rally was not to target the Kuki community as a whole but it was against Kuki militant groups who triggered the violence by violating the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the government.
