Miner killed in ‘mysterious circumstance’

Guwahati, Feb 13: A body of a coal miner killed in a mysterious circumstance was found on Tuesday in Assam’s Ledo in Tinsukia district. The deceased has been identified as Kancha.

Sources say he was killed while transporting coal at Lalmati in Ledo. His body is under the custody of the police in Ledo police station. In last five months, two workers have been killed and the reason for death is not known.

Sources say that illegal coal mining in Ledo, Margherita has become a death trap. Police is investigating the death. “Many coal miners have died while working in rat-hole miming but the administration choose to shy away from the matter,” alleged a local resident.

The mines in Ledo, Tirap, Tikak, Bargolai, Namdang, and Tipong has witness several deaths of coal miners in recent times.
