Aizawl, Dec 30: Five people including a woman were killed on Friday morning when a Maxi Cab Service (Tata Sumo) carrying eight passengers met with an accident and fell off a cliff at Chhungte in Champhai district of Mizoram.
Aside from the five people killed, three other passengers, including an infant, were seriously injured. Reports said the mishap happened in Chhungte area of the Champhai district when a passenger carrying Tata Sumo, bound for Zokhawthar from Aizawl, veered off the road after meeting an accident, and fell into the gorge.
The three injured persons were taken to a nearby Champhai District hospital, from there two were referred to the city for better treatment as their injury is serious.
TJ Lalnuntluanga, the State Transport Minister, paid a visit to the injured patients at Champhai District Hospital.
The deceased persons are: Parthai (mother of an infant), Mungsiandawnga (37) of Pakzang Village, Ginsiankhupa (32) of Sialtui Village, Tialliancheua (37) of Chichai Village, and Lallunghnema (36) of Zokhawthar Village.
