Securing only five seats in the 40-member house, Congress was voted out of power in 2018 by the Mizo National Front (MNF).
The Congress has recently formed ‘Mizoram Secular Alliance’ (MSA) with two local parties — People’s Conference (PC) and Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP).
State Congress chief Lalsawta recently said that the party would field candidates in all the 40 assembly seats and the Central Election Committee would soon announce the names of the candidates.
“This time with full force Congress party will contest in Mizoram assembly polls. Rahul Gandhi’s rally will impact the voters,” said a member of Congress.
In 2018 assembly polls, the MNF bagged a total of 26 seats in the 40-seats assembly house. Eight seats went to independent candidates while Congress party could manage to win only five seats.
Mizoram has 8.51 lakh voters. Ruling MNF and BJP will be contesting separately in the upcoming assembly polls.
