Aizawl, Aug 29: A-15 member Election Commission of India (ECI) led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday held a meeting with top state government officials and reviewed the poll preparedness of Mizoram, which is due at the end of this year.
Major political parties of the state have begun their campaigns and started visiting voters.
The 40-member Mizoram Assembly will go to the polls towards the end of this year along with Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Telangana.
Mizoram Chief Secretary Renu Sharma and Director General of Police Anil Shukla were also present in the meeting.
The Commission also held meetings with the national and state level parties and heard their views and suggestions.
The ECI team arrived in Aizawl on Tuesday on a three day tour to review poll preparedness of the state.
In the 40-member Mizoram Assembly, the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) has 27 members, main opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has six, while the Congress has five legislators and the BJP one.
The term of the legislative assembly of Mizoram ends on December 17, 2023.
