Mizoram elections is about protecting the State from BJP-RSS: Rahul Gandhi

Must read

Aizawl, Oct 17: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that they believe India is a union of states where all religions, all cultures, and all communities need to be protected.

Addressing a press conference in Aizawl, Rahul Gandhi said, “Congress party laid the foundation of the country and has a track record of protecting the ethos of the country. BJP has attempted to capture the entire institutional structure of the country.”

“The upcoming Mizoram elections are about protecting the idea of Mizoram from a BJP-RSS entry,” Gandhi said.

“Our vision is of decentralisation, and their vision is of centralising power. We will defend the idea of India, protect the Constitution, and value the country; that’s the idea of the India Alliance, and the India Alliance is ruling over 60 percent of the country,” he further said.

The Congress leader claimed that different states in the northeast are being attacked by the BJP-RSS. “Your religion and traditions are under attack. In Mizoram, both regional parties, MNF and ZPM, have entry points for the BJP; MNF is already an BJP ally, and ZPM is not fighting the BJP; in fact, the chief minister of Assam is trying to play his politics here through these regional parties,” he pointed out.

He further announced that Congress will form the government in Mizoram, reiterating that parties like ZPM and MNF are entry points for the RSS-BJP.

He went on to state there is a general tendency now to underestimate the Congress party.

Talking about the situation in Manipur, he said, “… communities are so divided that Meiteis can’t go to Kuki areas and Kukis can’t come to Meitei areas… So the politics of division and hatred has created a division and it needs to be repaired, the hatred BJP has spread needs to be removed and that was my point on Manipur.”

The voting for assembly elections in Mizoram will take place on November 7, and the counting of votes will take place on December 3.

The last date for filing nominations is October 20, and scrutiny of candidatures will take place on the next day, while the last date for withdrawing nominations is October 23.

Mizoram has 8.51 lakh voters. Ruling MNF and BJP have decided to contest separately in the upcoming assembly polls.
