Aizawl, Sept 8: The Mizoram State Commission for Women Chairperson, C Lalchhandami, has tendered her resignation following the registration of an FIR against her.
Lalchhandami tendered her resignation to the Commissioner and Secretary of Mizoram Social Welfare, Tribal Affairs, Women and Child Development.
Earlier, the Mizo National Front’s (MNF) legal board registered an FIR against her at the Bawngkawn police station, stating Lalchhandami was appointed the State’s Women Commission Chairperson even though she is overage.
MNF also gave Lalchhandami a deadline till 5 pm of September 9 to resign from her post, stating that failure to do so would compel its legal team to take further actions.

Meanwhile, Lalchhandami said in her resignation letter that during her tenure as Chairperson from March 8, 2024, she heard 102 cases with a success story of 80 percent.
She also mentioned that during her tenure as Chairperson there were more cases than the previous five years (May 2019 to February 2024), which she stated had just 86 cases.
Criticizing the opposition party for attacking her age, Lalchhandami claimed she is still eligible for the post but resigned to maintain the dignity of the commission.
