Mizoram: After Govt apathy, local residents of Sakawrtuichhun in Aizawl construct road

Aizawl, Sept 8: After government apathy, local residents of Sakawrtuichhun in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, on Saturday came together and repaired a road on their own with funds generated from the community and NGOs.

Over 600 volunteers from the locality started repairing the road from 9 am till late in the afternoon. The cost of the road construction was about Rs. 2.4 lakh. This amount was contributed by individuals, NGOs and churches within the locality.

Out of this amount, building materials, road rollers, excavators were purchased and hired for the construction.

Meanwhile, Sakawrtuichhun YMA President said the road construction work was not taken up to criticize the successive governments, but it was done out of a dire necessity.
