Shillong, July 7: The East Khasi Hills police have identified the miscreants hours after several vehicles were set on fire by a mob at Laitumkhrah Police Station in the wee hours of Friday.
While talking to reporters, East Khasi Hills SP, Sylvester Nongtynger said that they will not be able to divulge the names of those who have been identified.
He also denied that the use of excessive force by the CrPF personnel even as claiming that few of the people had tried to snatch the fire arms of the CrPF personnel.
Nongtynger said that he cannot say about the involvement of the pressure groups in this incident since investigation is on.
Earlier, Health Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh had a meeting with East Khasi Hills SP and SP (City) Vivek Syiem in the presence of Laitumkhrah-Malki MDC, Fantin Lakadong.
According to sources, the incident started when police allegedly refused to register a complaint lodged by a local, who was beaten up infront of the DHS office at Laitumkhrah.
It was alleged that during the assault incident, the local also got assaulted by security personnel.
There was a heated argument between the people and the police in the police station before the stone pelting and arson incident took place.
