Jowai, Dec 19: Minister in-charge Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department, A L Hek, inaugurated the Modern Bi-Species Abattoir at Demthring village, West Jaintia Hills District on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister expressed confidence that the abattoir inaugurated would ensure the production of hygienic processed meat. He urged the butchers to cooperate and maintain cleanliness. Acknowledging that there will be initial challenges, he emphasised on the importance of having a positive and constructive attitude in this journey.
Deputy Director, (Planning) Directorate of AH & Veterinary, Dr. W M W Khongwir, in his keynote address, mentioned that the inaugurated Modern Bi-Species abattoir has the capacity to slaughter approximately 50 cattle and 100 Hogs per day. He also mentioned that the construction work started in 2014.
The butcher house at Demthring was initiated in 2012-2013 funded by National Agricultural Bank for Rural Development (NABARD) with a total project cost of Rs. 7.83 crore.
Others who spoke on the occasion were Lahkmen Rymbui, Local MLA Amlarem constituency, Wailadmiki Shylla, MLA Jowai constituency.
