Tura, May 30: The director of a private school where a large number of garo girls are studying and staying in a hostel has been accused of allegedly molesting three minors, prompting angry parents along with Garo organizations to accost the accused school director.
The incident took place in Calvary Mission School in Amguri Garo village under Dhupdhara police station.
The accused school director identified as Kajaluddin is alleged to have recently called out three underage girls from the garo community residing in the school hostel and inappropriately touched them.
The story reportedly came to light after some students tipped off the regional Garo students union of Adokgre.
The student union met with the victims and after hearing their side of the story held a meeting today with the parents, the GSU of Assam state zone, the All Rabha Students Union, the Dainadubi Rajasimla Youth Council and other local bodies.
Together with the student bodies, victims parents and villagers of Amguri, they went to Calvary Mission School and accosted the accused director.
“The director accepted his guilt and in front of the parents and the victims and all organizations tendered an unconditional written apology. He also stated that he is ready to face any harsh punishment in the near future if such an incident is repeated,” said Churik Momin, president of GSU Adokgre regional unit.
Of late many schools have come up in Assam, particularly in Paikan, Goalpara, Dudhnoi and Dhupdhara bearing christian religious names to pull in students from the Garo Hills.
Many of these schools have no connection or affiliation to any christian religious organizations but use the names to draw students.
Parents are advised to check the antecedents of such private schools that have no church affiliated connections.
