Agartala, Sept 27: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Rural Development, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, on Tuesday lauded the efforts of Tripura government for effectively utilizing 90 percent of the allocated MGNREGA budget.
Recently, the opposition parties criticised BJP over alleged budget cuts and reduction of workdays in the 100-day job guarantee program under MGNREGA.
Talking to reporters here, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti said, “Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in 2014, Tripura had experienced substantial development. The centrally sponsored scheme’s progress in the state highlighted the increase in employment opportunities, particularly in rural areas, had significantly curtailed migration in Tripura.”
“The Prime Minister himself has visited the region more than 50 times in the past nine years,” she said, emphasizing on the transformative impact of this development.

The minister added, “Before 2014, there were only 74 members of self-help groups (SHG) in Tripura. However, the current number of SHG members has surged to 4,78,986, all of whom are women and have become self-employed thus are playing pivotal roles in the local economy.”
She highlighted a similar trend, revealing that the number of women SHG members had risen from 2.5 crore pre-2014 to a staggering 9.5 crores in India.
The Prime Minister’s initiatives have enabled these women to access banking services.
The MoS expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his initiatives, particularly during the pandemic, and for uplifting the impoverished through programs such as: One Nation, One Ration Card, Jan Dhan accounts, sanitation initiatives, and Amrit Sarobar.
“The remarkable shift in India’s global influence under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. India now stands as a voice that the world listens to, reversing the previous dynamic where global leaders spoke, and India listened,” she said.
