Tura, Aug 20: The inaugural instalment of the Inter Mahari Football Tournament’s women’s division concluded with Mrong emerging victorious on Saturday at the PA Sangma Stadium in Tura.
In a thrilling showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats, Mrong clinched the championship title by prevailing over Mangsang with a 2-1 scoreline after the stipulated regulation time.
From the moment the referee’s whistle sounded, both teams demonstrated their prowess and determination on the field. Mangsang made their mark with one goal, yet it was Mrong that showcased a stronger performance, breaching their opponent’s defense twice.
Shantila M Sangma from the Mansrang team emerged as the top scorer of the tournament, netting an impressive tally of 6 goals. The title of the Best Player was awarded to Nakatchi M Marak of the Mrong squad, acknowledging her exceptional contributions throughout the competition. Meanwhile, Nokambe M Marak, also from Mrong, was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper for her outstanding performance between the posts.
Cheran Mahari stood out for their exceptional discipline, earning them the distinction of being awarded the Best Discipline accolade.
The inaugural Inter Mahari Women’s Football Tournament not only showcased the talents and dedication of the participating teams but also celebrated the growing enthusiasm for women’s football in the region.
