Shillong, Apr 30: Khimusniang SC secured their place in the pre-quarterfinals with a 3-1 win over Mawshun SCC, while Maram FC registered a comfortable 5-1 victory against Balmanduri in Group G of the 5th Meghalaya State League (MSL 5) on Thursday.
Khimusniang were made to work hard for their result after Meroily Lytan (10’) handed an early lead to the West Jaintia Hills team. But Restorewell Marbaniang (72’) gave Mawshun fans plenty to cheer about as he equalised in the second half. However, this was short-lived as Civility Khongmalai gave lead to Khimusniang just three minutes later with a scintillating free-kick in the 75th minute before adding another goal in the 78th minute.
The result confirms Khimusniang’s progression alongside Nongkseh from Group A, with the two sides set to meet on May 6 to decide the final standings.
In Williamnagar, Bris Taro netted a hat-trick (63’, 73’, 83’) as Maram FC defeated Balmanduri 5-1. Tremarchwal Ch Marak (37’) and Easter Salchang Ch Sangma (90’) also scored for the second-placed Maram, while Chichang M Momin (71’) scored the consolation for Balmanduri, who remain fourth in the group.
