Mukul questions Govt on demand notes served by HNLC to businessmen and politicians

Shillong, Aug 19: Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma on Thursday claimed that many business tycoons and politicians have been served with demand notes by proscribed outfit HNLC. The outfit has reportedly demanded money in the name of “income tax”.

“Please ask the Chief Minister how many MLAs and how many of the ministers have received demand notes then you will know what is the gravity of the situation (whether) is it fine or is it okay,” Mukul told reporters.

He alleged that there is complete insensitivity on the part of the government towards this crucial concern.

“What you see and what you know is just tip of the iceberg. I must tell you because if I have tried to draw the attention of the government particularly the Chief Minister, to convene the meeting of the State Security Commission, there were inumerable reasons and this is one of them,” he added.

According to him, it is the responsibility of each and every one to ensure that the state does not go to that kind of disastrous future.

“Our youth must not lose hope that they become so vulnerable or rather that they get so frustrated and angry and become vulnerable. No, you can’t afford to allow this to happen,” he said.

He also asserted that people need to know why law and order situation in the state has slipped after years of peace and normalcy.

He also stressed on the need for everybody to fear the law. The Leader of Opposition said, “Any civilized nation will have to ensure that… It is the law that regulates everybody’s action. It is the law that creates a deterrence otherwise the world will not be a liveable planet, you will not able to live.”
