Shillong, Aug 19: Meghalaya leader of opposition and Senior Congress leader, Dr Mukul Sangma on Thursday clarified about the misunderstanding or misinformation concerning the remarks made by Randeep Singh Surjewala, general secretary of AICC.

He clarified that people have taken it out of context. Sangma clarified that Surjewala was referring to the visuals of the masked miscreants brandishing rifles and driving a Scorpio car.

Surjewala had on Wednesday compared the miscreants in Shillong to Taliban militants for brandishing AK-47 guns and driving in a car with black flags around the city on August 15, 2021 without anyone to stop them.

“He also spoke about the whole northeast like the border row between Assam-Mizoram. As a spokesperson he was drawing the attention of the Government of India why these things were happening in the Northeast,” clarified Dr. Sangma.

He explained that the lawlessness, the anger the frustration weakens the overall environment that is so important to generate momentum of progress.

“Peace and harmony is crucial. It comes when we all feel comfortable and secure leaving no space of insecurity about the future. So what was spoken about was keeping all this in mind and how it all started from CAA protests seen in Northeast and also the border row,” he said.
