Tura, March 26: Tura Congress candidate Saleng A Sangma has accused former chief minister and All India Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Sangma of working on behalf of the BJP agenda in this election with an eye on entry into the saffron camp.
“When the state budget session concluded on the 27th of last month, Mukul tried to lure all the opposition (TMC) MLAs to join the BJP but was unsuccessful. Now he is putting up a candidate from the very party he tried to break. What kind of politics is this?” Taunted the Congress candidate.
He made this remark when asked about the decision of two opposition parties- Trinamool and Congress to field candidates separately for the Tura MP seat, thereby giving an edge to rivals NPP which has managed to get the BJP to back down and support its candidature.
Although the TMC has stayed away from fielding a candidate for the Shillong seat, giving a much needed boost to Congress’ Vincent Pala, yet the story has been different in Garo Hills.
The party has fielded Mukul’s younger brother Zenith Sangma for the Tura seat. Zenith was defeated in last year’s assembly elections by NPP’s Subir Marak in his bastion of Rangsakona.
“But people of Garo Hills will see through them and decide who is credible, and who is not,” claims Saleng Sangma confidently.
