Must read

Imphal, Dec 15: The Myanmar Army on Wednesday handed over five hardcore cadres of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) outfit, a sister wing of the outlawed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to Manipur police, officials said.

A police official on condition of anonymity said that a special flight brought the five Manipur-based RPF militants from Myanmar and landed at the Imphal airport on Wednesday morning before the handing over of the extremists to the Manipur police.

The RPF guerrillas were immediately taken to an undisclosed location by the police and are being interrogated by the senior officials.

Police is yet to confirm that whether these rebels were involved in any incident.

Sources said the five RPF cadres led by their leader Devani were provided some medical treatment in a Myanmar hospital for some ailments after they were nabbed by the Myanmar military at Monywa under Sagaing Region in northwestern Myanmar in August last year.

On November 13, in a deadly joint terror attack, the PLA and the Manipur Naga People’s Front killed Assam Rifles Colonel Viplav Tripathi and four jawans of the paramilitary force in Churachandpur district bordering Myanmar. Colonel Tripathi’s wife and their 9-years-old son were also killed in the attack.
