The ceremony was attended by the awardees along with their parents, officials from the Department of School Education, the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), teachers, and well-wishers, who joined in celebrating the achievements of the young scholars.

The Chief Minister’s Meritorious Students Fellowship was instituted by the Government of Nagaland in 2019 under the initiative of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to recognize and support the state’s top-performing HSLC students. The first batch of 55 students from the HSLC Examination 2019 received the fellowship on January 31, 2020, marking the launch of the programme.

Under the fellowship scheme, the top 50 rank holders, including students securing tied ranks, from the Indigenous Scheduled Tribes of Nagaland are awarded a fellowship of ₹50,000 annually for five years, subject to maintaining at least 80 percent marks in their annual or semester examinations. The initiative aims to promote academic excellence, encourage higher education, and nurture future leaders and professionals from the state.

Now in its eighth edition, the Chief Minister’s Meritorious Students Fellowship has emerged as one of Nagaland’s premier academic recognition programmes, reflecting the state’s continued commitment to rewarding merit and investing in the educational aspirations of its youth.
