Kohima, June 25: In a major push towards e-governance and ease of doing business, the Nagaland Labour Department has made the registration and renewal of shops and commercial establishments completely online, ending the submission of physical applications with immediate effect.
Under the new system, all applications under the Nagaland Shops & Establishments Act must now be filed through the department’s official portal, following a government notification issued on June 8, 2026, which abolished manual or paper-based submissions.
The move is aimed at simplifying compliance procedures and improving transparency for business owners across the state. District Labour Offices will assist applicants facing difficulties in using the online platform.
The department reminded business owners that every shop and commercial establishment, except those exempted under the Act, must register within 30 days of commencing operations. Non-compliance can attract penalties, including the registration fee and an additional ₹2 per day for continued default.
The online portal allows users to create accounts, submit establishment and employee details, upload documents, pay fees digitally and download certificates after verification, with processing expected to take between three and seven working days.
Labour Commissioner Smti. Avile Vitso said the department is expanding digital services to ensure full legal compliance for both shops and factories. The portal also offers e-Shram registration services for unorganised workers and compliance inspection modules.
The department has urged owners of shops, hotels, restaurants and other notified establishments to switch to the online system and complete their registrations and renewals without delay.
