National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme felicitates Tuberculosis free villages in Tura

Tura, June 8: The National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, West Garo Hills, Tura organised a felicitation program for TB free villages and best performing Health and Welfare Centre (HWC) under the TB Mukht Panchayat initiative, on Saturday at the District Auditorium.

Nokmas of 17 villages under Rongram block and Gambegre block were felicitated with a certificate and a bronze bust of Mahatma Gandhi, to commemorate their achievement in attaining TB free status. The best performing Health and Wellness Center was awarded to Bolchugre HWC under Darengre PHC.

The bronze colour bust was given to the villages for maintaining TB free status for the first year and subsequently silver colour bust will be awarded on retaining the status for the two consecutive year and gold colour bust for continuous three years of being TB free. 41 villages of West Garo Hills region  were declared TB free for the year 2023.

West Garo Hills was awarded best district for highest TB prevented treatment with 75% treatment rate and also the best district award for best treatment success rate which is 87% for the current year. Bronze medal was awarded in Sub National Certification for eliminating 20% of the disease. The NTEP further aims to achieve  Gold medal in the Sub National Certification for the same.

The TB Mukht Panchayat initiative was envisaged for achieving sustainable development goals in the Panchayati Raj institutions with the aim of eradicating TB in India by the year 2025.

The program also saw the official launch of the TB awareness song titled ‘Bakrimna Hai’ by Nokpante Productions.

The objective of the program was to empower the Nokmas and the villages as a whole and to make them realise the extent and magnitude of problems associated with the Tuberculosis and take necessary actions towards the problems.  The NTEP also aims to eliminate the stigmas associated with the disease, by providing monitoring and emotional support to the TB patients.

The program witnessed the presence of Dolrich B. G. Momin, Project Director, DRDA, Tura I/c Block Development Officer Gambegre Block; Dr. I. C. Marak, Jt. DHS cum Superintendent, Tura Civil Hospital; Dr. I. Toksie R Marak, Sr. M&HO, Assananggre PHC and Dr. Riksilchi M Sangma, I/c DTO, West Garo Hills along with office staff of District TB Hospital.
