Tura, Jan 25: Along with the rest of the country, eligible voters in Tura took the voter’s pledge on Saturday at a grand function organized by the District Election Officer, West Garo Hills, to mark the 15th National Voters’ Day at DC Park, Tura.

The theme for this year’s National Voters’ Day, “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure,” continues last year’s theme, emphasizing the importance of voting, instilling pride in electoral participation, and honoring new voters.

Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani highlighted voting as the cornerstone of democracy and a duty to both the nation and oneself. He emphasized the significance of every vote, noting that each one shapes the future and ensures voices are heard in the democratic process.

Speaking to young and first-time voters, Chelani urged them to exercise their right to vote, emphasizing the qualitative impact their participation could have on the nation’s future. He also encouraged everyone, including officials, to bring the discipline and dedication seen during elections into other areas of life, both personal and professional.

Chelani expressed gratitude toward election officials, including ADCs, booth-level officers, and sector officers, for their tireless efforts in conducting free, fair, and unbiased elections. He called for a round of applause to honor their dedication and reflected on how human potential can achieve great things through coordination and clear goals, drawing parallels to the election process.

Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the need for improvement in the education sector, urging teachers—many of whom also serve as booth-level officers—to bring the same level of commitment to education as they do to elections.
