NEHU’s Tura Incubation Centre wins 2nd Prize at Government Achievements & Schemes Expo 2024

New Delhi, July 28: In a testament to the growing focus on research & technology in the region and increasing innovation, Meghalaya’s North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) recently won the 2nd prize at the Government Achievements & Schemes Expo – 2024 for the excellent achievements in higher education.

The three-day expo was held from July 20 to 22, 2024 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

In the Expo, number of institutes from across the country such as Central Universities, NITs, IIMs, CSIR institutes, Incubation Centres, and State Government’s departments participated, showcasing their novel technologies, products, and achievements towards the Government schemes in over 100 stalls.

NEHU exhibited various innovative technologies and products developed by its Tura based incubation team, under the leadership of Dr. R. Sasikumar, NEHU Tura Campus, Meghalaya, which are also aligned with ASPIRE scheme of Government of India. NEHU showcased 9 novel technologies, which included 3 patented technologies, 9 viable commercial products, well established Food Testing Laboratory, and pilot cum commercial plants to facilitate customize technology and product development.

The Expo organizing committee after regress evaluation all over the 100 stalls and their significant contribution towards the national importance, awarded 2nd prize to North Eastern Hill University, Meghalaya for the excellent achievements in higher education. The prize award received by Dr. R. Sasikumar, Nodal Officer, Incubation Centre, NEHU Tura Campus, Meghalaya.

Notably, during the 3 days, there were nearly 2500 visitors for each day and the total registered visitors at NEHU’s stall alone were 1753.

The award ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries from NEHU, including Prof. Prabha Sankar Shukla, Vice Chancellor of NEHU, and Prof. G. Singaiah, Vice Chancellor of Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya, Assam. They were accompanied by Prof. Sumarbin Umdor, Controller of Examinations, and Prof. Shailendra Kumar Singh, former Dean of the School of Technology, NEHU Shillong.

The Incubation Centre at NEHU’s Tura Campus has been instrumental in conducting capacity building programs, hands-on training, workshops, and providing Agri-Horti and Apiculture support to farmer groups. These activities are carried out in collaboration with ICAR-NIBSM, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, under the North East Hill Program (NEH) aimed at socio-economic development in the North Eastern Region. This initiative has been in implementation since from 2020 under the leadership of Dr. P. K. Ghosh, Director, ICAR-NIBSM and Dr. P. Mooventhan, Senior Scientist, Nodal Officer, ICAR NIBSM, Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

In 2020, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between ICAR-NIBSM and NEHU, solidifying a five-year collaboration (2019-2024) focused on enhancing agricultural practices and promoting entrepreneurship in the region.
