NEHUTA elects new Executive body

Shillong, June 10: Prof. Xavier P. Mao has been re-elected as the president of the North Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) for the year 2021-22. The new Executive Committee of the Association took charge on June 8.

Prof. Donkupar Syiem has been elected as the vice-president, Dr. Marbhador M. Khymdeit as general secretary, Dr. Juwesh Binong as joint secretary and Dr. (Ms.) Jacqueline J. Thabah as treasurer.

The executive members are Prof. (Ms.) Esther Syiem, Prof.U.K. De, Dr. (Ms.) Jacintha I. Rapthap, Dr. P. Biswas, Dr. (Ms.) Ramona Sangma and Dr. (Ms.) Shimti Kharmawphlang.

The newly elected Executive Committee, after taking over the offices, pledged to continue its work for advancing NEHU’s motto of ‘rise up and build’.

“In the midst of difficult situations, the NEHUTA shall pursue with the authorities creation of a free, fair and healthy academic atmosphere in the University so that NEHU can regain laurels,” Prof Mao said in a statement.

He said the NEHUTA seeks support and cooperation from all sections of NEHU as well as from the entire society concerned with the future of higher education in Meghalaya and the Northeastern region.

The NEHUTA shall raise its voice on pressing issues of higher education so that the North eastern region and NEHU get its due share in the national and global scenario.

He said the Executive Committee will also continue following up all the pending issues pertaining to interests of the teachers and the University in every possible way.

The newly elected body shall strive for the academic and intellectual well-being of teachers, students and every related section of the society, Prof Mao added.
