NEHUTA slams Prof Shukla for overstepping boundaries in University affairs

Must read

Shillong, Jan 11: The North Eastern Hill University Teachers Association (NEHUTA) on Friday slammed the incumbent vice chancellor Prof PS Shukla for allegedly interfering in the smooth functioning of the university by way of abusing his powers so that several official functions are interrupted and impeded.

In a statement, the NEHUTA said, “Needless to say, that it is much beyond propriety on his part when he is absent and the university community is putting up an ongoing pressure on authorities for his removal. Despite on leave in the advice of the authorities, he is repeatedly interfering into normal functioning of the University so that his dictatorial motive is imposed on every function, duties and powers of the Vice Chancellor who is performing all these duties as prescribed by the Statutes of the University.”

It said that when Prof PS Shukla is advised to go on leave by authorities, he is reportedly representing the University in some official meetings, which is a case of gross impropriety and violation of University Act and Statute adding that on leave, he is not entitled to represent the University as per the laws of the University. Therefore, Prof PS Shukla is attempting to overstep the Act and Statutes and violating norms of functioning.

Condemning such unwarranted interference by Prof PS Shukla, the NEHUTA said instances of repeated interference by Prof PS Shukla show how much he is perturbed by ongoing movement demanding his removal. It also goes onto show that Prof PS Shukla thinks that his ego is bigger than the university.

“Mismanagement of every kind, appointments of unqualified and unfit people in key posts, dubbed by associations as anti-tribal, anti-local and all other insensible serial violations of University Act, Statutes and Ordinances accumulating into chaos and disparagement of accountability, fairness, transparency, equality and above all created academic, administrative and financial mismanagement in order to cause huge damage to the reputation and credibility of NEHU. In the same way he repeats sabotaging crucial functioning of NEHU without any accountability of its deleterious consequences,” it said.

The NEHUTA said that it sees a pattern in his desperate attempts to sabotage NEHU from outside so that maximum damage can be done to NEHU. These vindictive sabotaging acts of Prof Shukla shall make him more and more answerable as he is facing inquiry and all his misdeeds are now under scanner, it concluded.
