Guwahati, Jan 17: Newly appointed Assam BJP president Dilip Kumar Saikia emphasized unity as the cornerstone of his leadership, urging party leaders and workers to function as a cohesive force to secure victories in the 2026 Assembly elections, as well as the panchayat and autonomous council polls.

Addressing party members during the fourth day of the “Sangathan Parba” at Vajpayee Bhawan, Guwahati, Saikia outlined his vision for Assam’s future under BJP leadership. “We must work together to place Assam among the top five states in the country. Union Minister for Cultural Affairs Gajendra Singh Shekhawat officially announced Saikia’s appointment in the presence of prominent leaders, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, Assam BJP in-charge Harish Dwivedi, organizing secretary J Ravindra Raju, and other senior party leaders. Shekhawat described Saikia’s elevation as the beginning of a “new chapter for Assam BJP,” expressing confidence in his leadership to take the party to greater heights.

Saikia underscored the BJP’s ideological commitment, stating that the party’s mission goes beyond winning elections. “Winning elections is crucial, but our primary objective remains upholding the principles on which the BJP and Jana Sangh were founded,” he said. Stressing his leadership approach, Saikia declared he would prioritize “niti parikrama” (ideological commitment) over “neta parikrama” (leader-centric politics). He called on party workers to embrace the BJP’s core values and strengthen its grassroots presence to ensure enduring success.

Highlighting the significance of the RSS’s centenary year, Saikia set a bold target for the upcoming Assembly elections. “The RSS is completing 100 years this year, and we must strive to cross 100 seats in the next Assembly elections,” he declared. Acknowledging the magnitude of his role, he emphasized teamwork, stating, “While the president presides, the team decides. Our collective efforts will ensure success in the upcoming elections.”

Saikia reflected on the BJP’s rise on the national stage, invoking former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s 1980 prophecy: “Darkness will fade, the sun will rise, and the lotus will bloom.” He highlighted the BJP’s expansion to 7.5 lakh villages and 750 districts across 45 states, showcasing the party’s grassroots strength. Quoting a poem by Jyotiprasad Agarwala, he emphasized the BJP’s continuity across generations.

During the event, several Assam BJP leaders were nominated to the party’s national council, reflecting the growing influence of the state unit within the larger organizational framework.
