Khliehriat, April 12: The overall security of the East Jaintia Hills got a boost on Friday with the inauguration of the Mooriap Border Outpost (BOP) at Mooriap village under Saipung C&RD Block.

Inaugurating the BOP, Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla expressed gratitude to the district administration and police for realizing the long-standing demand of the people. She said the outpost will bring a sense of safety and stability to residents of Mooriap and surrounding villages including Umkyrpong, Lakasein, Samasi, Mynthlu, and others.

She also emphasized the need for continued development in border areas and encouraged residents to report security concerns to the police.

Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi highlighted the BOP’s role in enhancing local law enforcement and public access to police services. He also mentioned recent developmental initiatives supported by the local MLA, such as ambulance distribution and road construction. Awasthi thanked the state government and Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for prioritizing police infrastructure through the Police Infrastructure Renovation Fund (PIRF).

He also raised concern over child marriage, calling for greater awareness and public cooperation in reporting such cases.

Earlier, Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad noted that the new outpost will enhance community-police cooperation and improve overall security in the region.

The event was also attended by Sumer MDC K. Langstang, Public Prosecutor S. Pdang, Daloi Elaka Sumer K. Mannar, traditional leaders, and local residents.
