Tura, Sept 10: A new Garo Students’ Union (GSU) cell was formed at Captain Williamson State University in Tura to promote welfare and educational upliftment of Garo students.
This cell has been established under the spirit of the Constitution of India, particularly invoking Article 19, which guarantees the right to freedom of speech, expression, and association, as well as Articles 29 and 30, which safeguard the rights of minorities to conserve their distinct language, script, culture, and to establish institutions for their educational advancement.
The meeting to constitute the cell was led by GSU CEC HQ General Secretary Bibian G. Momin on behalf of GSU CEC HQ President Zicku Balgra N. Marak, who could not be present.
Bibian presided over the proceedings and guided the democratic election of the office bearers, emphasizing the importance of forming this cell to safeguard the interests of Garo
students and work for their educational and cultural development.
The newly elected office bearers of the GSU Captain Williamson State University Cell are as follows: President: Praistarbirth Ch. Marak, Vice President: Mathiash R. Marak, General Secretary: Magnus B. Marak, Assistant General Secretary: Newfield D. Sangma, Additional Secretary: Ronami D. Shira, Adviser: Chelchak Ch. Marak, Publicity Secretary: Janaban N. Marak, Organising Secretaries: Vayam G. Sangma and Jenisha N. Marak.
The GSU emphasized that the newly formed cell will work tirelessly for the welfare, educational upliftment, and cultural preservation of Garo students, fostering leadership and unity among the youth.
The Union reaffirms its commitment to working within the constitutional framework to safeguard students’ rights and promote academic excellence and social harmony on campus.
