New initiative to help Meghalaya entrepreneurs access funding

Shillong, March 26: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma emphasized that access to funding is crucial for scaling businesses, and the finance wing started by PRIME Meghalaya will play a key role in ensuring that Meghalaya’s entrepreneurs have the resources they need to succeed.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma attended the Onboarding & Graduation Program 2025 hosted by PRIME Meghalaya at Shillong on March 25. The event celebrated the growth of startups and the government’s efforts to support entrepreneurs. He was joined by Shri Aiban Swer, Director of MBDA; Dr. Vijay Kumar Damera; Ms Iaishah Rymbai; Lyzander Sohklet; and Gaurav Kapoor, CBO of IIMCIP, along with other dignitaries and business leaders.

PRIME Meghalaya will introduce a finance wing to help startups access funding and investment opportunities as part of its long-term vision. This new initiative will support venture capital funding, allowing high-potential startups to secure financial backing for growth and expansion.

In his speech, the Chief Minister spoke about the importance of entrepreneurship in Meghalaya’s economic growth. He shared insights from his recent budget presentation in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, where he stressed that job creation is a top priority for the government. He highlighted Meghalaya’s goal of becoming a 10-billion-dollar economy by 2028 and said that entrepreneurs play a key role in achieving this vision. He praised PRIME Meghalaya for its efforts in mentoring and funding startups, helping them create jobs and contribute to the state’s economy.

30 new entrepreneurs were onboarded in Cohort 5, and 25 entrepreneurs graduated from Cohort 4. These entrepreneurs shared their experiences and talked about how PRIME Meghalaya has helped them grow their businesses.

The Chief Minister also launched the Acceleration Program and the PRIME Entrepreneurs Spotlight, which will further support startups and help them reach new markets. He encouraged young entrepreneurs to take risks, think big, and build businesses that drive Meghalaya’s progress.

Awards were given to 55 entrepreneurs by the Chief Minister, recognizing their hard work and achievements.
