Agartala, Dec 23: In a significant move to enhance regional security, Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for the Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI) in Agartala on Sunday.
To be developed at a cost of ₹120 crore under the Bureau of Police Research and Development, the CDTI aims to raise the bar in policing and security across the eight northeastern states and neighboring countries.
It is noteworthy that during the 69th plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held in Shillong, a recommendation was made to establish an academic research center in collaboration with educational institutions to study the unique security challenges of the northeastern region.
Speaking at the event held at Kulai Reserve Forest Village Ground in Dhalai District, Shah also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 13 development projects worth ₹668.39 crore, with the CDTI emerging as a highlight of these initiatives.
Equipped to train over 6,000 personnel annually, the institute will boast cutting-edge facilities like simulation labs, IT data centers, and practical training areas to prepare law enforcement with modern policing skills.
The CDTI being established in Agartala will not only enhance the capacity of police forces but also promote international cooperation to effectively address cross-border security challenges.
“This institute will play a pivotal role in bolstering the security framework of the northeast, ensuring better preparedness for emerging challenges,” an official said.
The CDTI is set to position Agartala as a key hub for advanced law enforcement training, reinforcing both regional and national security.
