Shillong, Nov 20: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday informed that many of the important projects being implemented in the New Shillong Township (NST) will be completed by the end of 2026.
Sangma, accompanied deputy chief minister in-charge urban affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar, conducted an inspection of the land measuring 232 acres that has been allocated for building of the New Shillong Administrative City, which will have a large administrative complex to house a Secretariat building and all the directorates.
“We are here where the new secretariat and the new directorates of the Government of Meghalaya is going to be constructed. But it is not just secretariat and directorate, as you can see behind me, there are many projects that are going on in this particular area whether it is IT park phase-1 & phase-2, utility mall, integrated command and control centre (ICCC), new skill park, Prime Hub, heliport of Shillong, will be constructed here and other large urban buildings will be coming up,” Sangma said at the sidelines of the inspection.
“There are a lot of activities going on and we really want this entire zone to be a very planned area. Something that is going to be very unique and more of a futuristic kind of a city. We planned with the hope and the vision looking forward for the next 50-100 years that this entire thing should suffice for that kind of working space in the coming years. That is why you see the roads that we are going to be constructing out here are broad roads…That is the kind of vision with which we are moving forward,” he added.
Sangma also expressed happiness to see many projects are in progress.
“I have come today along with our deputy chief minister and officials to see the different projects that are going on and we are happy to see that many of them are completed and many are in progress and by the end of 2025, we will see completion of more projects and by 2026 end, we should see large numbers of these projects being completed,” he stated.
Stating that area is very important for development of the state, the CM said, “We are happy to see that the works are going on as planned and I would like to thank deputy CM in-charge urban affairs as well as entire team of urban department for having really focused and made all of these possible.”
