Tura, Sept 09: Nikseng Gittim Baptist Church lifted the championship trophy of the Inter Church Father’s Fellowship Football Tournament 2023 on Saturday at the Chandmari Football Ground in Tura, by defeating Rongkhon Songgital Baptist Church with a scoreline of 2-0.
The tournament was organized by the Akonggre Baptist Church Father’s Fellowship. It began on August 17 and concluded on Saturday, with a total of 32 teams taking part in the tournament.
The finale between Rongkhon Songgital Baptist Church and Nikseng Gittim Baptist Church saw a gritty showdown between two sides, displaying tremendous efforts and exhilarating performance in the first half. But that was the story till the first half as it ended on a draw.
Nikseng Gittim upped its ante in the second half and found the back of the net twice. After carefully analysing their opponents in the first half, Nikseng Gittim did not give Rongkhon Songgital any openings in the second half to score any goal, tightening its defences as well as doubling its offence.
Nikseng Gittim were awarded with the winner’s trophy and Rs. 16,000, whereas the runners-up were awarded an amount of Rs. 10,000 along with a trophy.
There were also cash prizes of Rs. 2000 rupees each for the best goalkeeper – Chingrak B. Marak of Nikseng Gittim Baptist Church, best player – Helen T. Sangma of Rongkhon Songgital Baptist Church, and highest scorer of the tournament – Rajiv T. Sangma of Nikwatgre Baptist Church and Clever G Momin of Hawakhana Baptist Church.
