Shillong, Dec 21: Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday said there are no COVID cases in the state as of now.
Lyngdoh has reviewed the status of COVID in the state in view of the recent increase in Covid cases in some parts of the country. The meeting was attended by the officials of the health department.
“As of now, the new variant has been declared as a variant of interest by the World Health Organization. This variant, although identified earlier this year, does not post any new risk or new symptoms,” Lyngdoh said.
Stating that there is no need for any alarm, the health minister said that the surveillance activities have been done continuously by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program of the Health department.
“There are no COVID cases in the state as of now. There has been no unusual increase seen in respiratory illness either,” she said.
However, the health officials had advised, in view of the festivities, precautions such as wearing masks in closed indoor spaces, maintaining hand hygiene and avoiding large gatherings may be followed. Those with comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney diseases etc, should take additional precautions if they have fever or severe flu like symptoms
