SHILLONG, Aug 30: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said the government is yet to take any decision on the demand of the midday meal workers for enhancing their monthly honorarium.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma assured that the government will discuss the matter very soon.
He was responding to a query with regards to the ongoing protest by the mid day meal workers in the city.
Under the banner of the All Meghalaya Mid Day Meal Workers Union, mid-day workers have been demanding the government to immediately enhance their monthly honorarium from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000.
Adviser of the Union K L Pariat had informed that the demand has been pending since 2019 and there has been no invitation from the chief minister for discussion till date.
“We have sent at least six reminders to the chief minister till August this year, to enhance the honorarium,” he said.
The union has also demanded cooking gas for preparation of mid day meals since none of the schools in Meghalaya receive LPG connection.
