Gangtok, June 19: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda on Sunday cancelled his visit to Sikkim owing to bad weather condition.
Nadda was scheduled to visit Sikkim for the first time on Sunday, but failed to reach due to bad weather condition.
However, BJP National president, JP Nadda virtually addressed the BJP supporters in Namchi town of Arunachal Pradesh.
In his absence, BJP Sikkim Incharge Dilip Jaiswal along with BJP Sikkim party president Dilli Ram Thapa and other senior leaders addressed the gathering of BJP supporters in Namchi town.
While addressing the issue of internal rift between the party and legislators, BJP Sikkim Incharge Dilip Jaiswal denied any division in the party.
“There is no division inside the BJP party in Sikkim, as was seen today where our 11 of our legislators were in attendance here today. There is no internal rift, this is merely in the minds of the people. Tseten Tashi Bhutia is like a guardian to the party, so whatever he said against the legislators was in a way to unite all the legislators and party members. But the event that marked the legislators absence was merely a district level party office opening, it was not necessary for all the party members and legislators to attend. If it were a state level meeting as it is today, then everyone needs to be present. This was merely a misunderstanding,” he shared.
Jaiswal said, “All the 12 legislators that we have in Sikkim are all locals, the public in attendance are all Sikkimese people, so how can BJP be a party from outside? When all the legislators are Sikkimese, tomorrow if BJP forms a government in Sikkim, then the Chief Minister will also be Sikkimese. Even in the North Eastern States which has BJP in power or in coalition, all the leaders and legislators to even the Chief Minsiters in these states are locals. This mindset has to change that BJP is an outsider’s party. When all the schemes implemented in the State, the funds to the State, the national highway construction, the hydroelectric power plants constructed for the State, to even railway connectivity has been ensured by the central government. When everything comes from the center government which has BJP in power, how can BJP be an outsiders party?”.
