Itanagar, Oct 19: Explaining the idea behind the Regional Conclave on the theme “Regional Aspiration, National Outlook” organised by the Arunachal unit of National People’s Party (NPP) on Tuesday at Itanagar, Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) Chief Conrad K Sangma said the idea was to give a platform to discuss issues which the North Eastern region has been facing for years.

He also stressed that there is no correct or final solution to the challenges that the people of the region have been facing for years and the conclave may also not provide solutions either.

“Today, we go to Delhi to talk about issues of North East but we also feel that our own people from the region don’t know enough about issues… So it was our idea to have a platform where we could deliberate on these issues… take ideas from each other and if possible, find a solution,” he told the gathering.

He also stated that there is the issue of being national and thinking from the perspective of an Indian but there are state and regional issues. He said this is also an issue but if these issues are discussed, then both national and regional issues can exist together and be taken forward together.

“I feel that when we discuss these issues, we will realise that these two issues can be pursued simultaneously… there are many things that are regional, issues specific to our state and tribe but we can present them with nationalistic outlook. This was the idea behind the topic of the conclave,” he said.
