Jowai, Oct 31: The North East Adventist University (NEAU) on Thursday observed the National Unity Day at the University Campus in Khliehtyrchi, West Jaiñtia Hills district.
The Principal Secretary of Arts and Culture, FR Kharkongor graced the occasion as the Chief Guest in the presence of the faculty members, parents and students.
The National Unity Day was introduced by the central government in 2014 to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India.
FR Kharkongor lauded the University and recollected that almost two decades earlier he had visited the school to inaugurate its library and now the school has grown with time.
He reminded that India, as it is today, is because of the efforts of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who worked to convince the princely states to join the Union of India.
During the celebration, traditional dances from different parts of North East were also performed which included Kaipeng Dance (Tripura), Wangala Dance (Garo), Chawnglaizawn & Cheraw Dance (Mizoram), Bagurumba Dance (Assam), Anal Naga Dance (Manipur – Nagaland) and Chaad Thma & Chaad Pliang (Khasi-Pnar).
The National Unity Day Pledge was also taken during the day.
