Shillong, Oct 28: The vibrant and diverse culture of North East Region has taken centre stage in Vietnam at the ongoing ‘North East India Festival’. This three-day extravaganza, which commenced on October 27, is forging connections between India’s North East and South East Asia.
The festival, held at the Rex Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, is a celebration of the region’s unique heritage, featuring a wide array of cultural displays and delectable cuisines. The main festival venue, September 23rd Park, is brimming with exhibitions showcasing the artistic traditions of North East India.
One of the highlights of the event is the ‘North East India Festival Fashion Weekend’. This dazzling fashion show is set to feature creations from some of the most prominent designers in North East India. The runway will be graced by celebrity showstoppers and elegant models from Vietnam, adding an international flair to the showcase.
One of the designers showcasing their work is Daisy G Momin from Garo Hills, who will be presenting under the label “Daisy’s”. Not just Daisy, the Wangala Dance of Garo Hills is also being showcased at the event.
Daisy’s fashion show is scheduled on the evening of October 29.
Other designers include fashion by Bidyut & Rakesh, Manjushree Saikia showcasing under the label “Ura Maku”, and Babbi Kevichusa presenting under the label “Bambi”.
Before the Fashion Weekend, the festival offers a captivating display of folk performances from the region. Attendees are also being treated to the cultural extravaganza featuring various traditional dance forms from the North East Region. These include the mesmerizing Bagrumba, the spirited Bordoi Shikla, the graceful Karbi Dance, the vibrant Tiwa Dance, and the exuberant Wangala Dance from Meghalaya. Additionally, there will be a showcase of the dynamic Manipuri Martial Arts, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the region.
Furthermore, Meghalaya’s famous folk-fusion band ‘Summersalt’ is performing at the event. Other designers from the State exhibiting their work are Fashion Show by Iba Mallai under the label “Kiniho”; and Fashion Show by Hasina Kharbhih under the brand “Impulse Empower”.
The ‘North East India Festival’ will conclude on October 29.
