Baghmara, Oct 28: In another step towards bringing legal services closer to people and to speed the justice delivery system, Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court Sanjib Banerjee on Saturday inaugurated the District and Sessions Court Complex in Baghmara, South Garo Hills.
The inaugural function was also attended by Rakkam A. Sangma, Minister of Education, Government of Meghalaya, Judges of the High Court, Justice H.S Thangkhiew, W. Diengdoh, Additional Judge Meghalaya High Court, Justice B. Bhattacharjee, local MLA Baghmara K.R. Marak, Court functionaries and officials from the District administration, students and people of the area.
During his inaugural speech, the Chief Justice expressed his happiness at the timely completion of the court complex and said that the infrastructure will greatly benefit the people, and aid the judiciary in speedy delivery of justice and legal services.
He also expressed gratitude towards the Government, the administration and court functionaries for their support and commitment towards setting up the court complex and hoped that the state of the art building will be an inspiration and a catalyst towards development in other areas as well in the District.
Drawing attention to the rich flora and fauna of South Garo Hills the Chief Justice, cautioned that development should not come at the cost of the environment and emphasized on the need to tread the path of balance and sustainability.
Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma showered his appreciation towards the commitment of the Government and added that the Court Building will be an asset to the people of the district and will fulfill people’s need for legal services more accessible henceforth.
